This university project is different from my usual work. The task we were set was to create a visual story in no less than 10 images that we feel personally connected to and is related to our area of specialisation, for me nature and conservation. I struggled to come up with a suitable idea before I came across an article that showcased the work of photographer and lecturer Trystan Poyser. The concept behind the piece was to document the local nature reserve he visited when work and life became overwhelming over the seasons. Although quite simple, the notion resonated with me, I decided to see if I could develop it and make it personal to me, using myself as the subject and portraying the physical and mental journey from that difficult place towards nature and how freeing that can be. I took this as an opportunity to lean into some alternative genres of photography, using long exposures and post production to create ghostly versions of myself to represent the worries that disappear as I become more immersed into my local environment.
